Aikido, a martial art born of a warriors inspiration seeking a pathway for peace.

Aikido has its roots in highly destructive martial arts designed to quickly and efficiently neutralise an opponents fighting capacities.  Generally this involved destruction of joints.  Broken bones will usually heal, whereas a destroyed joint is a much more difficult matter.  The warrior thus wounded would often commit suicide.

The Founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba sought a different path and resolved that the martial art was developing was an art of peace not war.

Today Aikido seeks to develop the student rather than destroy an opponent.

“Aikido is as much about internal transformation as it is about external skill development.” – Jeffrey James Sensei

“To injure an opponent is to injure yourself. To control aggression without inflicting injury is the Art of Peace.” – Morihei Ueshiba
